Croton-On-Hudson, NY, Oct 2, 2009–The Croton-Harmon Education Foundation (CHEF) kicked off the school year with two very successful events. CHEF, along with the CET PTA, co-hosted a kindergarten ice-cream social on Saturday, September 26th. The social took place at the home of Gillian Jackson-Champlain and Richard Champlain on Mt. Airy Rd East. Over 35 families came out to enjoy ice cream, make new friends, and meet Principal Maloney. The Blue Pig generously donated the ice cream.
School’s In – Eat Out was on Tuesday, September 29th. For one night only, local restaurants donated a portion of their revenue to CHEF. Participating restaurants included Bella Paula’s, Capriccio II, Croton Colonial Diner, Justin Thyme Café, India House, Memphis Mae’s, Samurai, Sofia’s, The Tavern at Croton Landing (Honey’s), and Umami. The next big CHEF event is the second annual CHEF House Tour on Saturday, October 24th. The theme for this year’s House Tour is “Houses with a View.” This is an opportunity to peek inside some of Croton’s most interesting homes.
If you have a program idea – please share it with CHEF. Applications can be filled out by students, teachers or parents. Applications for the next grant cycle are due on November 13, 2009. The Croton-Harmon Education Foundation is entering their 10th anniversary year. Through the generous support of the Croton community, CHEF has awarded grants of more than $480,000 for a variety of initiatives, many of which give students unique educational experiences that go beyond the scope of traditional classroom learning.
